Top-class drumsticks with guaranteed weight. Pellwood combines the latest technology with a very traditional approach. Here's how a Pellwood stick goes from tree to your hands, in the family workshop in Čestice.
01
Drying the timber
Every stick starts as US Hickory or European Hornbeam, dried in two stages: first naturally out of doors, then in a condenser drying kiln to reach the right humidity. This gentle treatment preserves the wood's quality and character.

02
Preparing the squares
Once dried, the wood is cut and sorted into identical squares, one per stick. Premium Pellwood sticks are made from top-quality wood only; anything that doesn't meet that standard goes into the affordable X-Line series.

03
Guaranteed weight, since 2009
For Premium sticks, each square is weighed and sorted into weight categories matched to the individual models, and every model is always made from squares of the same weight. So whenever you buy a pair of Premium Pellwood sticks in your model, they weigh exactly the same as the ones you're used to. Premium sticks are weighed to 1g accuracy.

04
Turning
Sticks are turned on a high-efficiency copying lathe. They are ground twice: once during turning and again on a dedicated single-purpose machine.

05
Finish & print
Pellwood uses a subtle layer of special non-slip OLI-PUR lacquer (unlacquered sticks are available on request). After lacquering, each stick is printed with the Pellwood logo and model name — including our artists' signature models.

06
Matched & packed
Before packing, sticks are matched by colour and wood grain, then weighed again to make sure the two sticks in a pair differ by no more than 1g. Finally they are sealed in plastic wrap to keep out humidity.

Premium vs. X-Line
Single pairs · £16
Premium
Squares are weighed before turning, so every pair of your model weighs the same, year after year, to 1g accuracy. 17 models in US Hickory with a wood tip.
4-pair packs · £30
X-Line
Squares are not weighed before turning, but sticks are matched in pairs to 2g accuracy before shipping. X-Line sticks may show minor cosmetic imperfections, and the grain may not always run parallel to the stick — but they give great service at an affordable price. 16 models; the 5A, 5B, 7A, 2B and 3A also come with a nylon tip.
